RCW114, aka The Dragon's Heart is a beautiful, but faint HII region on the border of Scorpius and Ara. What few images exist on Astrobin (and I am responsible for a least two) are mostly NB. I have been a little disappointed with both my previous NB images, as the various combinations of bands didn't really give a pleasing colour image. Possibly this could be due to their being no [OIII[] and Ha and [SII] pretty much having the same distribution over the nebula.

This time, I thought I would give OSC an go, and "blasted" it with 7 hours worth of subframes. Even at f/2 it still proved challenging to pull out the nebula. But havin done so, I quite like the result. RCW114 is still faint but its delicate web appears to hang gracefully in the sky suspended in front of the Milky Way. [For some reason I am reminded of the video of the plastic bag blowing in the wind fromAmerican Beauty].

I did try to add in the Ha from my NB data taken last year, but it through the colour balance off and I lost the lovely golden coulr of the Milky Way band. Besides, I hope it is instructive to see a "pure" OSC image - the only other I have found to date being @Gabriel R. Santos (grsotnas) excellent image also taken with a wide-field, wide-open lens.

Submitted The date and time when you submitted this image for IOTD/TP consideration.	...
Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
